How to decide which bodywork therapy service is best for me

Some of the questions I commonly get asked to help you decide

Yes, whether you have a physical or hidden disability I aim to make the reasonable adjustments necessary for you to access your appointments with me. However, some needs may influence the choice of venue for your session, so it’s a good idea to book a call with me to help us identify how I can accommodate you.

Yes, I work with children & young people, always at their pace & always within their comfort zone. All children & young people under 18 must be accompanied THROUGHOUT an appointment by a parent or carer.
I currently don’t offer Indian Head Massage for anyone under 16.

No, none of the soft tissue therapies I offer require you to undress but light clothing is preferable. However, for Scar Tissue Release sessions I will need to get to the scar so it’s important that you wear clothing that is easy to adjust to expose the scar for treatment.

Your comfort is essential to feel the full benefit from your session. All my practices can be adapted to suit you, but it can sometimes be helpful for me to know in advance, so it’s always a good idea to book a call ahead of your session to discuss.

Cancelling your appointment a minimum of 24hrs before is preferred, however I understand that life likes to throw curveballs at us from time to time! Please familiarise yourself with my cancellation policy at the time of booking. Here you will find details of what happens in such circumstances.

No, Bowen Therapy is a very gentle, non-invasive technique that moves soft tissue only. It is safe for babies, the very elderly & those in acute pain. The aim of Bowen Therapy is to trigger the body’s own ability to make changes via the nervous system & to do this we don’t need to make any harsh adjustments or use heavy/deep pressure.

The majority of people who book a series of Bowen Technique sessions with me are suffering some sort of back pain or sciatic type pain & they find their sessions greatly improve their ability to get on with daily activities that they have been struggling with due to pain. Occasionally the source of back issues could be the presence of a scar, such as an abdominal scar from previous surgery for example. When you visit me as a new client for Bowen Therapy I always make note of any scars you have to assess if McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release therapy would be indicated. Frozen shoulder is classed as a self -limiting condition which will eventually resolve itself after some time. However the time period required for this can vary from person to person & most will want help way before improvements start to happen in order to carry on with their daily activities. Remedial soft tissue therapies, such as The Bowen Technique, can be really beneficial to help ease discomfort & restriction. Read on to find out how

Unfortunately at present I am not able to use scar tissue release with hernia scars, or any other scars where there is surgical mesh embedded in the superficial tissues. If you have a hernia scar that is causing physical issues you may find other bodywork techniques, such as Bowen Therapy, useful for addressing restrictions, reduced range of movement or pain.

Most of my canine bodywork & Herbal Choices sessions take place in the dog’s home. My mobile clinic operates within a 20mile radius of Churcham, GL2 8BG. I do however have access to the clinic room at Forest Dog Deli in Cinderford which may be better suited for some dogs.

Yes, I do run sessions for different dogs living in the same household & offer a discount for this. However, each dog is unique with their own specific needs so it is best to book enough time to accomodate this. So for example a double Bowen Therapy session would need upto 2 hrs. A double Herbal Choices session may need upto 3.5hours.

No- it is preferable that each dog has their own appointment & that they are seen in their own home or at the clinic space in Cinderford. Each dog is unique & will have their own specific needs.
However, if you wish to book an appointment on the same day as a neighbour or friend living in the same area you can share the extra fuel costs.

No – zoopharmacognosy/ Herbal Choices is a complementary method & not a replacement for first-line veterinary care. If you have any concerns over your animal’s health you must always consult your vet first.

No – you must never alter the dosage or stop giving any medication unless told to do so by your vet. Any medication your animal is on must be given at least 2 hrs before & at least 4hrs after a consultancy session with me & any subsequent sessions you do afterwards.

No – only your vet can diagnose health problems. Herbal Choices is a way of supporting your animal’s health & is not intended to cure specific issues.

Yes- self-selection is an innate behaviour that your animal will already be practicing when they have the opportunity. During your consultancy session you will be given a set of simple rules/guidelines to follow & shown how to safely offer the plants or aromatic herbs & oils.

As a consultant I do not prescribe any of the herbs used in a session. The animal is in charge of selecting what they need & the amount they need to support their health . A full case history will be taken prior to your appointment & occasionally I may choose to postpone the session if I feel it would be contraindicated – for example if there was a significant health concern that had not yet been checked by your vet or if between the time of booking & the day of your appointment there was a change in the animal’s health not yet reported to the vet.

No – as a consultancy service my aim is to instruct you on how to safely & confidently offer according to your animal’s needs. Most owners find 2 sessions a good starting point, others may opt for more than 2 sessions if their animal has complex needs & if they feel they need a little more guidance & confidence, & others may find that 1 session provides them all the guidance they need to continue the process in their own time.
