Massage & energy therapies
Holistic therapies for total relaxation

What is the difference between massage therapy & energy therapy?
Massage therapy is a type of bodywork where the therapist uses hands & fingers to knead soft tissue to provide relief from tension & pain. Energy therapy is a type of healing modality which works with the body’s own energy field to restore whole body balance.
I currently offer the following techniques, which can also be blended to provide a bespoke treatment session to help you during times of stress. To discuss which blend of therapies would suit you most you can book a free discovery call with me
Indian Head Massage

Originating in India, this type of massage therapy has been traditionally practiced for generations between family members, even being taught to children from an early age. Indian Head Massage has become a popular form of massage in the West for:
- relaxation
- upper body & neck tension
- stress
- headaches
These days I like to call the technique Head & shoulder massage therapy. During your appointment you will experience gentle massage of the shoulders, neck, face & scalp. The massaging techniques, as well as encouraging relaxation, stimulate blood flow & lymphatic drainage to relieve tension in the tissues by aiding excretion of built up toxins in the upper body region.
This is a very versatile massage therapy which can be practiced with the client seated or lying supine. It is common, but not essential, for a scented aromatherapy oil in a seed based carrier oil to be used during an Indian Head Massage.
Benefits of Indian Head Massage
A 30mins shoulder, neck & head massage fosters a sense of being held & nurtured, ideal for times when life feels overwhelming. For those looking for a touch of selfcare an Indian Head Massage offers time out from your burdens while being nurtured in safe hands.
Some of the benefits of Indian Head massage include:
- relief from stress & tension headaches
- improved sleep quality
- improved circulation in the scalp & face tissues
- reduced upper body tension
- reduced anxiety
- reduced brain fog
What to expect during an Indian head massage session
Typically the therapist uses a seed based massage oil to which a few drops of aromatherapy oils can be added. The use of massage oil helps create smooth gliding massage moves through the tissues, but is not essential & can be omitted should you prefer.
There is no requirement to undress for a head & shoulder massage, other than exposing the shoulders & arms. Contact with skin is preferable so wearing clothes with straps that can be easily dropped while maintaining modesty is the best option. However if you do not wish to expose shoulders during the treatment this will be respected.
Indian Head massage is suitable for most health states but there may be some circumstances where this technique may not be suitable, for example during pregnancy, or where there are perceived contra-actions requiring an adjustment to the treatment.
Reiki

Reiki is an energy healing technique for releasing blockages within the body to restore physical & emotional balance & wellbeing. When there is balance in the body we are better able to deal with our stressors. When there is imbalance life can feel overwhelming.
A balanced body relies on unhindered flow of the energetic processes of each body system. When one system is out of kilter it can upset the balance of the whole. Experiencing times of stress, adversity or trauma can contribute to imbalances & blockages in the body’s energetic processes, such as digestion, metabolism, respiration etc impacting on our overall wellbeing.
Why choose Reiki?
Reiki is a technique developed by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920s. Reiki means “Universal life force energy”. Usui discovered a way of channelling this universal energy so that it could be accessed for aiding individuals on their healing journey. Reiki is now widely practiced across the globe, becoming popular for:
- relaxation
- rebalancing the body’s energy processes
- stress & anxiety
- relief from emotional upheaval
- people who are particularly hypersensitive to touch
Reiki is suitable for all ages & health states
What happens during a Reiki session?
During a Reiki session the client is either seated or lying supine. The therapist uses either very light direct touch or no touch (holding their hands above the body) or a combination of both. You will be expected to remain fully clothed for the duration of a Reiki session.
How does it work? The therapist places hands on or over specific energy centres of the body -known as “chakras”- each of which is linked to a particular body system. The therapist assesses how well the energy is flowing in the area of each chakra, spending more time over areas which feel blocked.
The client usually enters a deep state of relaxation & may experience unusual physical or visual sensations, such as tingling or bright colours. For some the session may trigger an emotional release.
Benefits of Reiki healing
Clients often report responses such as improved sleep patterns, reduced pain levels, increased relaxation & a greater feeling of peace during times of challenge.
