Bowen Therapy for dogs

Canine Bowen Therapy

Caring for a dog who is potentially in pain can be a worrying & confusing time. Canine Bowen Therapy is suited to dogs whose owners wish to understand how their dog communicates their issues through behaviour & body language in order to make their life more comfortable. Through a combination of this non-invasive physical therapy & practical advice & education I aim to improve your dog’s wellbeing while helping you gain the confidence to recognise signs of pain, discomfort or stress & take action to improve your dog’s quality of life.

Why choose Canine Bowen Therapy?

Canine Bowen Therapy is a popular choice for improving any dog’s overall wellbeing & particularly in the following circumstances;

  • chronic pain
  • osteo arthritis & other joint issues
  • stiffness or muscular tension
  • recovery from injury
  • back problems
  • neck problems
  • digestive issues
  • stress & anxiety
  • emotional trauma
  • post surgery rehabilitation
  • physical maintenance for dogs in competitive /non-competitive sports /working trials

What happens during a Canine Bowen Therapy session?

During a session the therapist makes gentle but firm rolling moves over specific points of the body which target the layers of ‘fascia’ (a type of connective soft tissue rich in nerve receptors). The session is interspersed with breaks which allow the brain & nervous system to process, recalibrate & effect changes within the body & to give the animal time to process what is happening.

Typical results reported by client carers after a series of 3 to 4 successive Canine Bowen Therapy sessions are ;

  • notable reductions in pain /discomfort
  • improved posture & reduced stiffness
  • increased range of functional movement
  • reduction in recovery time following high energy activity
  • improvement to their overall wellness & mood
