Helping you feel free from pain & free to move again
Remedial physical therapy suitable for all the family
The Bowen Technique
Because we understand that to relieve pain it’s best to avoid creating pain during a treatment, The Bowen Technique is well suited to those wishing to improve physical issues & range of movement without feeling like they’ve been put through the mill with the added bonus of enjoying an extremely relaxing experience in the process.
This non-invasive technique is a popular choice for people needing a boost to their overall wellbeing & for those suffering;
- Chronic pain
- back problems
- frozen shoulder & tennis elbow
- upper body & neck tension
- stiffness & muscular tension
- frequent headaches or migraines
- sports injury
- chronic fatigue
- digestive issues
- stress, anxiety or sleep issues
- post surgery rehabilitation
what happens during a Bowen Therapy session?
The therapist makes gentle but firm rolling moves over specific points of the body which target the layers of ‘fascia’ (a type of connective soft tissue rich in nerve receptors). The session is interspersed with 2 minute breaks which allow the brain & nervous system to process, recalibrate & effect changes within the body.
Typical results reported by clients after a series of 3 to 4 successive sessions are:
- notable reductions in pain or discomfort
- reduced stiffness & increased range of functional movement
- improved posture & a feeling of restored ‘balance’
- improved sleep patterns
- reduction in recovery time following physical exertion
- improved overall wellness

FAQs
Does Bowen Therapy hurt?
No – Bowen Therapy is a very gentle, non-invasive technique that moves soft tissue only. It is safe for babies, the very elderly & those in acute pain. The aim of Bowen Therapy is to trigger the body’s own ability to make changes via the nervous system & to do this we don’t need to make any harsh adjustments or use heavy/deep pressure.
Can Bowen Therapy help my bad back?
The majority of people who book a series of Bowen Technique sessions with me are suffering some sort of back pain or sciatic type pain & they find their sessions greatly improve their ability to get on with daily activities that they have been struggling with due to pain. Occasionally the source of back issues could be the presence of a scar, such as an abdominal scar from previous surgery for example. When you visit me as a new client for Bowen Therapy I always make note of any scars you have to assess if McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release therapy would be indicated. What can Bowen Therapy treat?
Bowen Therapy is a holistic technique so we treat the person/animal not the specific symptoms. As a Bowen Technique practitioner I am not qualified to diagnose or prescribe & I cannot say I treat specific conditions. However many symptoms – including muscular, internal & emotional – respond favourably to this technique. To find out more click here
Can Bowen Therapy help my frozen shoulder?
Frozen shoulder is classed as a self -limiting condition which will eventually resolve itself after some time. However the time period required for this can vary from person to person & most will want help way before improvements start to happen in order to carry on with their daily activities. Remedial physical therapies, such as The Bowen Technique, can be really beneficial to help ease discomfort & restriction. Read on to find out how
